As the Snow Melts..

Winter came and went so quickly.  Too quickly.  Looking back, most of it was spent at home training and bonding with Kumo.  I summarized our few ventures out of our hometown here.

 Snow Day One

Kumo's first reaction to snow: wth is this?!

He was not digging the strange texture and sinking sensation of fresh powder. It took a good deal of coaxing to get him to follow us through the snow. He whined and scuttled around uneasily.  He looked kind of like a lizard; legs and toes sprawled out to increase his surface area. And it kinda worked! He didn't sink quite as much, but he looked ridiculously funny doing it.

After about half an hour of trudging, Kumo just plopped down and refused to follow.  Tim had to picked him up and  carry him out of the powder back to the parking lot. We walked him around the parking lot for a while, making him walk through a little snow now and then until he got used to it.

During our walk, we saw a family with a beautiful white German Shepherd.  It was huge! And so friendly. Maybe Kumo figured if that ginormo-doggie could have fun in the snow, so could he.. because all of a sudden Kumo was running into the snow on his own. lol.

He followed us easily after that. Sometimes he'd wander off a little to sniff a tree or dig a little snow then run to catch up with us.

Kumo loves chase.  He's so quick and agile he's hard to keep up with.

So if he ignores verbal commands to return, just switch just up and make him "it." He comes tearing after you.

We stayed out for a good 2 - 3 hours before piling back into the car and driving to town to get us something warm to eat. Kumo zonked out after that.
So much excitement in one day for a pup.

Snow Day Three

We tried a new place with more people this time. Kumo loves snow now! He wasted no time bounding into it and and doing his crazy little shiba thing.

He found a little snippet of tree branch and tossed it around.

We were happy to see he was so comfortable in the snow.  I did notice he was a little wary of the loud scraping sounds of sled boards we passed on our way to an open spot. But other than that he had a blast.

He even joined us in our snowball fight.  He chase after snowballs, dug up fresh snow, and distracted the enemy team.

No fair, one of our teammates isn't even facing the right way!

We expected Kumo to be tired after this trip.  We had stayed out longer and he ran around more... Oh, were we wrong.  We got home and he was ready for more! He raced around the house, growling and squeaking his toys loudly.. power naps work way too well for puppies..
